Designer Fashion

The Designer Fashion Industry as part of the Creative Industries is taking on a more prominent role in the global economy.  Relative to its population size, and despite its geographical isolation, WA has already enjoyed a high level of success in the national and international designer fashion industry.

The Premier's Fashion Taskforce, chaired by Professor Ted Snell, was established in 2003 to make recommendations to examine ways to nurture and promote a growing pool of design talent in WA. The Taskforce's report and appendices are available by contacting the Department's Librarian.

Following a key recommendation of the Premier's Fashion Taskforce, the State Government implemented a competitive grants program at the Department of Culture and the Arts in 2004. Applications are available for Designer Fashion Grants. Please contact the Designer Fashion Project Officer for more information.

In January 2007 an Interim Report was published to provide an initial assessment of the impact of the Designer Fashion Grants Program on the WA Designer Fashion sector. This report is available by contacting the Department of Culture and the Arts on 9224 7300.
