Consultation Process

To ensure that a range of perspectives are represented, the Department of Culture and the Arts (DCA) is engaging in an extensive consultation process. The purpose of the consultation strategy is to:

  • Identify policy priorities
  • Understand community preferences that inform decision making
  • Contribute to the development of relevant policy and strategies
  • Find solutions that reflect the Western Australian arts communities values
  • Build a stronger relationship between DCA and the arts community

The consultation is made up of two stages. The first stage included a series of forums and panel discussions. The public forums were completed at the end of July 2008. The first four forums were divided into specific topics; Creative People, Creative Communities, Creative Economy and Creative Environments. The fifth forum dealt with Creativity and Engagement.  The forum topics were developed from background research and were identified as the primary elements for consideration in the development of a policy framework.

The second stage offers the opportunity to provide feedback on a number of policy questions that have emerged from the first stage of consultation and the proposed framework through email or written feedback or through participation in focus groups. In so doing the Department will ensure broad representation from the sector. This stage of the consultation process will examine the policy and funding priorities for the Department for the next five years.
