2. Toy Time for Tots to Toddlers: Fremantle Toy Library Opens in Hilton
Noddy and his friends in Toyland have some competition on their hands, now the Fremantle Toy Library in Hilton has opened its doors. The Fremantle Toy Library has an array of toys, including ride-in-cars, bikes, scooters, puzzles, games, puppets, fancy dress, baby walkers and various activities for children aged up to six.
“The joy of toys for children is a wonderful thing, enlivening their imaginations while also helping them to learn,” Ms Caddy said. “Having the Fremantle Toy Library in Hilton is about taking toys to the people, making sure the children in our community have ready access to playthings as they grow and develop. “And our general library access is for the whole community, not just toy library members, giving people from all walks of life even more convenience when using our services.”
Open 9am to 2pm, Monday, Thursday and Friday and 9am to 5pm Tuesday.
Located in Progress Hall on Paget Street, the Fremantle Toy Library is managed by the Fremantle City Library, after being moved from Quarry Street.
3. The Music Theatre Audition Masterclass
The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts continues its acclaimed Music Theatre Audition Masterclass to help demystify what can be a daunting process – the musical audition.
Tired of “just missing out”: the class offers insights for Professional & Amateur Performers, as well as Teachers, & potential WAAPA students.
The three-hour session includes mock auditions for singing, acting, and dance, and prepares auditionees for all challenges from ‘cattle-call’ to ‘callback’. Whilst not a singing lesson, selected participants are used to demonstrate “successful singing & acting approaches”, and the session concludes with everyone experiencing a rigorous dance callback.
Saturday 13th September, 10am – 1pm
Although applications are made online at www.waapa.ecu.edu.au/explore please contact the Explore Extension Courses Coordinator on (08) 93706782 or email explore.waapa@ecu.edu.au for further information.

5. Black Swan Theatre Company – BSX Theatre Thrills & Skills Program
Non-Naturalism with Andrew Hale
Join Andrew Hale, who will be on stage at the Playhouse Theatre as Cyrano de Bergerac in October, for our Term 3 BSX Theatre Thrills & Skills workshop.
Some of the greatest theatrical literature was never meant to be played realistically. Heightened characters, absurd circumstances and surreal imagery are some tools used in non-naturalist theatre. This BSX Theatre Thrills & Skills workshop will develop your skills in textual analysis, physical characterization and introduce you to the areas of absurd theatre, epic theatre and theatre of cruelty.
Non-naturalism in the theatre exposes us to new ways of seeing and understanding ourselves and our reality. Symbolism, repetition and the manipulation of the audience expectations are some of the tools used in non-naturalistic performance.
This BSX Theatre Thrills and Skills workshop introduces participants to the use of non-naturalistic language, imagery and performance styles of the theatre of the absurd, the theatre of cruelty, and unlocks the potential of the subconscious as a creative tool.
