A Streetcar Named Desire
To celebrate its 60th anniversary, South Perth’s Old Mill Theatre is presenting the Tennessee Williams classic A Streetcar Named Desire this July. Tying in with the diamond anniversary, this year also marks 60 years since the first West End production starring Vivien Leigh, who went on to feature in the original film version with Marlon Brando. Widely considered a landmark play, A Streetcar Named Desire scored the 1947 Pulitzer Prize for drama and dealt with both male and female sexuality for the first time in American theatre. The story focuses on Blanche DuBois, arriving in New Orleans to stay with her sister and animalistic brother-in-law, where her fantasies of primness and respectability are violently stripped away and exposed. A Streetcar Named Desire plays at 8pm, July 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 22, 23, 24 and 25 with a 2pm matinee on July 12 and 19. Tickets are $20 and $15 concession – book on 9367 8719.
