Tura New Music wins at the 2009 Classical Music Awards
Western Australia-based new music powerhouse, Tura New Music has won the Outstanding Contribution to Australian Music in a Regional Area at the 2009 Australian Classical Music Awards held at the Sydney Opera House on Monday, September 21. Tura New Music and the Australian Art Orchestra received the award for Outstanding Contribution to Australian Music in a Regional Area for the Crossing Roper Bar Tour, presented by Tura New Music, the Young Wagilak Group from Ngukurr (Arnhem Land), the AAO and Paul Grabowsky in 2008. Crossing Roper Bar Tour 08 was an historic three week tour celebrating the remarkable collaboration between the Wagilak Gujarra/Nyilapidgi musicians from Ngukurr in East Arnhem Land and the Australian Art Orchestra, led by internationally acclaimed musician, Paul Grabowsky. With an annual program supported by State and Federal Governments, Tura New Music provides vital support to emerging and accomplished Australian composers, performers, organisations and audiences in WA and beyond. It has just completed the 9th Totally Huge New Music Festival held biannually over ten days in Perth.
