Development

This category is for the exploration of new ideas, the development of new skills, the creation of new work or a fresh interpretation of existing material for today’s audience. Development applications may include distribution costs.

Applications can be for one or more of the following activities:
  • The research and development and/or production and public presentation of a new idea or a new work
  • The professional development of individual artists and/or arts workers
  • Commissions in fields such as writing, music composition and/or the visual arts
  • Collaborations designed to produce new work, either within or across art form areas, involving two or more individuals, groups or organisations, or artists working with the community
  • The revival and reinterpretation of plays, choreography and music and the mounting of visual arts or craft retrospectives in which the work is viewed in the context of contemporary practice.

Selection Criteria

In addition to the selection criteria of the Arts Grants Program applications to this category must also address
  • where your application is for an interpretation of existing material, you must articulate why the work is worth revisiting
  • activities that are exploratory or open ended must include quality development and review processes.
Applications directed to the Young People and the Arts or Indigenous Arts Programs should also address the requirements of those Programs.
