Grants for Artists with Disabilities
A Disability and the Arts Initiative (DAII)
The Grants for Artists with Disabilities Initiative is the first cross government partnership to deliver grants for artists with disabilities in Australia. It is a pilot project funded in partnership with the Disability Services Commission and managed through the Department of Culture and the Arts (DCA).
Artists interested in getting a grant for an arts project have to write an application.
To make an application you need to explain:
• How the project will happen
• Who will be involved
• How the project will help you develop your practice and
• How much the project will cost
The Grants for Artists with Disabilities handbook contains a step-by-step guide to putting an application together, gives examples of arts projects suitable for grant funding and explains how your application will be assessed. You can download the handbook or contact the DAII Officer and they will post one out to you.
Find out more about the Grants for Artists with Disabilities and the other DCA arts grants available. Learn about the application and assessment process. Meet the team and get some hot tips on how to write the best application.
Then we will sit down with you and talk about your project ideas and even start writing your application!

Staff at the Department of Culture and the Arts can help you understand how to write an application for a grant. They can help you work out if you are eligible to apply and which category is best for your project.
The Disability and the Arts Inclusion Initiative Officer can assist you with preparing your application and is available for face-to-face meetings. Assistance can also be provided via telephone, fax, email or in an accessible format convenient to you.
DCA can arrange for an arts and disability advocate to attend your meeting with an Officer. The advocate will be a specially trained person who understands issues faced by artists with disabilities. We welcome family, friends and carers to attend your meetings if you would like.
