Partnerships for Skills Development

Partnerships for skills development funding is available to encourage industry participants to take on people seeking industry experience or to collaborate with emerging designers on projects.  This category is for projects which increase skills development in the areas of design, production, administration, management and marketing for people involved in the Western Australian Designer Fashion industry.

Mentorships are encouraged as a way of achieving a transfer of existing knowledge within the designer fashion industry.  Mentorships are relationships between emerging designers or marketers and experienced industry professionals.

Selection Criteria

Both the mentor and mentee should benefit from the mentoring partnership, which should involve discussion and sharing of ideas and contacts, and may result in a project such as a designer fashion event or new product.  The majority of funding sought for a mentoring project should be allocated to professional fees for both the mentor and mentee.   Applications to this category should be particularly careful to clearly state the skills development goals of the project as well as the mutually agreed processes by which they will be achieved.

Eligibility

Eligible expenses include professional fees, related on-costs, travel and accommodation.

Sample projects that could be supported in this category

• Internships
• Mentoring an emerging designer
• Collaborations with Asian manufacturers/designers
• Collaborations with Indigenous artists/textile designers
• Staff exchanges or placements.

Please note:

• The cost of producing samples and garments is not an eligible expense.
• The Department will not meet 100 per cent of the cost of any project so your budget should clearly show your own contribution.
