Fashion Research and Development Travel

The Fashion Research & Development Travel grants program is designed to assist designers to attend relevant industry events such as fashion weeks, conferences, expos and intensive training programs.

Selection Criteria

Your application should clearly outline your experience and why it is of strategic importance for you to attend this particular event at this point in your career. Letters of support from industry colleagues to back your claims will assist the panel to assess your application. Please include a detailed itinerary and plan of how you intend to capitalise on this activity.

Eligibility

Eligible expenses include airfares, freight and accommodation.

Sample projects that could be supported in this category:
  • Attend an interstate or overseas trade or public designer fashion event
  • Attend an industry networking conference or workshop
  • Travel to meet with a new agent or distributor
  •  Take up a good promotional or business opportunity for which travel costs are prohibitive
An applicant may receive a maximum of two Fashion Research & Development Travel Grants in any 12-month period, including where you have been the beneficiary of a group application.

Please note:
  • The cost of producing samples and garments is not an eligible expense.
  • The Department will not meet 100% of the cost of any project so your budget should clearly show your own contribution.
  • Students are not eligible.

Funding Cap

The maximum amount of funding available per person is $2000 for interstate travel and $3000 for overseas travel.
