Publishing Assistance

The Publishing Assistance Program is designed to support living Western Australian visual artists and writers by enabling their work to be published, promoted and distributed.

Publishing for the purposes of this program includes print publication and electronic media.

Publishers can apply for assistance publishing one or more works. Applications supporting poetry are encouraged.

Selection Criteria

Applicants will be assessed against the selection criteria of the Arts Grants Program. Applications to this category must also address the following:
  • relevance to Western Australian culture
  • demonstrated viability of  the publishing venture, including marketing, promotion and distribution
  • a significant contribution to the development of Western Australian literature and Western Australian publishing

Eligibility

In addition to the general eligibility requirements of the Arts Grants Program, applicants considering this category should be aware that:
  • the budget must include the payment of appropriate fees and/or royalties to authors and other artists involved
  • works of fiction and non-fiction are eligible
  • the costs of translation or revision are ineligible
  • publishers may receive only one Publishing Assistance grant per year

Support Material

In addition to the general support material of the Arts Grants Program you must submit:
  • a copy of the complete manuscript/s
  • a sample of other works published by the applicant where available (no more than three works of five pages each)
