Visual Art and Craft Mid-Career Fellowship
This fellowship category is open to individual, established artists working in all areas of visual arts and craft, including painting, sculpture, installation, ceramics, jewellery, glass, textile, wood and digital arts.
The purpose of the Mid-Career Fellowship is to enable:

Growth of the your practice through research and development; and/or
-
Increased national and international profile through the creation of documentation including monographs, catalogues and critical writing; and/or
-
Increased profile through large-scale exhibitions or residencies.
Fellowships may be developed in conjunction with other planned initiatives, eg expansion of a proposed publication, forthcoming residency, or exhibition.
Fellowships may vary in duration up to a maximum period of 12 months. For the purposes of acquittal and future eligibility to the Arts Grants Program, all fellowships are considered to span a 12-month period (effective from the commencement date of the fellowship).
Fellowships should incorporate:
- A growth of your practice through research and/or developmental activities which focus on the pursuit of excellence and innovation
- Activities that build on, enhance or complement your previous practice and will assist you to develop your practice and profile, and
- A summary of what you wish to achieve and how you will evaluate your fellowship. This should form part of your answers in the application form.
The panel is limited to awarding four Mid-Career Fellowship grants per year.
Assessment Criteria
The Panel assesses applications against the assessment criteria of the Arts Grants Program. In addition applications must also demonstrate:
- A significant track record with a consistent and suitably high standard of practice, and
- How the proposal represents a significant development or variation from normal practice or activity, where the proposed program involves a continuing relationship between you and an existing gallery or organisation, through exhibitions, residencies or master-classes.
Eligibility
In addition to the general eligibility requirement of the Arts Grants Program, applicants should be aware that:
- Applicants must be currently practising within the visual arts and/or craft sector and able to demonstrate a minimum of 10 years professional practice with an established exhibition history comprising solo and/or group exhibitions
- Previous Creative Development fellows are ineligible to apply
- Previous Mid-Career fellows are ineligible to apply, and
- Successful applicants are ineligible for other Arts Grants funding throughout the term of the fellowship. However, fellows may apply for Artflight funding where an unanticipated opportunity has arisen as a direct result of the fellowship activity. Such opportunities must not be part of the planned fellowship program of activities.

- Documentation of an existing and significant body of work. This may include catalogues, previously published works, etc. The amount submitted must not exceed one standard A3 envelope in bulk, and
- A CV up to three pages demonstrating a minimum 10 years professional practice.
The Visual Arts and Craft Mid-Career Fellowships are part of the Visual Arts and Craft Strategy, a joint Federal and State Government funding initiative to benefit Western Australian individual artists, creating more opportunities for contemporary visual arts and craft practitioners across the States and Territories.
