Emerging Curators
The Emerging Curators Program has two categories - Visual Arts and Crafts and Public Collections and two methods of application - Proposal and Expression of Interest.
The Emerging Curators Program – Visual Arts and Craft is part of the Visual Arts and Craft Strategy, a joint Federal and State Government funding initiative to benefit Western Australian individual artists, creating more opportunities for contemporary visual arts and craft practitioners across the states and territories.

Funding for the Emerging Curator Program – Public Collections is a result of DCA’s response to the recommendations of the Museum Policy Reference Group report: Developing a Way Forward for Western Australia’s Heritage Collections and Collectors. The Executive Summary and Action Plan are available.

How to apply
By Proposal
You are encouraged to approach the relevant Officer with a proposal for a high-quality professional development opportunity to gain direct experience of a major interstate or international institution or significant event.Selection Criteria
In addition to the relevant Arts Grants selection criteria* you must demonstrate:
- the potential for skills development exceeds that currently available at a Western Australian event or institution
- scope to benefit the broader sector upon your return to Western Australia.
If you are applying to the Public Collections category you must also address:
- How the proposal furthers the pursuit of excellence in collection management and interpretation in Western Australia.

By Expression of Interest
The Department generates a number of opportunities each year for Western Australian curators to gain direct experience of a major institution or significant event. Contact the relevant Officer for current Expressions of Interest.Selection Criteria
Expressions of Interest will be invited through relevant networks and include selection criteria specific to each opportunity.Eligibility
In addition to the general eligibility requirements of the Arts Grants Program, you should be aware that the program is open to curators who consider themselves to be ‘emerging’. You may, however, be considered ‘established’ in other fields of artistic endeavour. Please discuss your eligibility with the relevant Officer.Support Material
