Artflight
This category assists Western Australian artists and arts workers to attend events or undertake activities of strategic significance to the development and promotion of their arts practice or profession at short notice. Activities may include the presentation of a paper at a conference or seminar, attendance at the opening of their exhibition or book launch, to perform or exhibit at a festival etc. Events/activities may be within Western Australia, Australia or abroad. Artists and arts workers are encouraged to apply through regular funding rounds if time permits.
Selection Criteria
In addition to the selection criteria of the Arts Grant Program, applications to this category must also address the following:
All applications must
- describe the profile of the event or activity and the benefit it offers to your professional development
- articulate any potential to enhance the reputation and profile of the applicants involved and the Western Australian arts sector
- highlight longer-term national or international audience development opportunities
- demonstrate additional significant outcomes and strategic benefits for the applicant if a recurring or repeat attendance at a specific event
International applications must:
- show a significant track record as an artist or arts worker
Eligibility
In addition to the general eligibility requirements of the Arts Grant Program applicants considering this category should be aware
- attendance must be in response to a written invitation to attend or present. A registration of attendance may be acceptable in specific circumstances where the opportunity is significant. Please confirm eligibility with a project officer.
- invitations to accept or participate in an award or prize are ineligible, unless significant strategic benefits to the applicant’s practice can be demonstrated;
- other sources of income must be demonstrated. Artflight offers a contribution toward the costs of travel and freight only
- applicants are eligible to receive one Artflight and/or Quick Response Grant in any 12-month period, effective from the departure date of the Artflight activity. This includes beneficiaries of joint applications
- artists and arts workers employed by triennially and multi-year funded organisations may submit applications as individuals, provided they demonstrate that it benefits their own practice and that the activity is not undertaken on behalf of their employers
- all travel must originate from Western Australia. Western Australian residents only may apply
- groups should submit a joint application and not individual applications for each artist
- any activities already funded by other categories of the Department’s grants programs are not eligible
- applications to participate in residency programs must demonstrate exceptional strategic opportunity or skills development not available in Western Australia
Support Material
In addition to general support material the Arts Grant Program applicants must include
- airfare and freight quotes, and
- a letter or email of invitation. If this is not available at the time of application, lodge your application on time and mark it ‘pending confirmation’. If successful, your funding will be made available upon confirmation of your invitation.
