Artflight

Showcasing the pre-eminent art collection in Western Australia

Artflight

This category supports Western Australian artists and arts workers to attend events at short-notice that have strategic significance to the development or promotion of their arts practice or profession.

Eligible activities may include but are not limited to:

  • Attendance at the opening of your exhibition or book launch
  • Performance or exhibition at a festival
  • Presentation of a paper at a conference
  • Attendance at short courses or workshops with highly specialised professional development where entry is competitive.

Prize receipt, meeting attendance or scoping an upcoming activity may form part of an application, but cannot be the central reason for travel. All travel must originate from and return to Western Australia.

Applications without required support material are not considered eligible. Events or activities may be within Western Australia, Australia or abroad. Artists or arts workers are encouraged to apply through regular funding rounds if time permits.

Assessment Criteria

IThe Panel assesses applications against the assessment criteria of the Arts Grant Program. In addition, applications must also:

  • Highlight the profile of the event or activity and the strategic benefit it offers to your professional development
  • Articulate the potential to enhance the reputation and profile of the artists or arts workers involved and the Western Australian arts sector in an important national or international context
  • Identify any longer-term national or international audience development opportunities
  • Demonstrate how the opportunity builds on other grants made by the Department (if applicable)

International applications must also demonstrate:

  • A significant track record as an artist or arts worker.

Applications for recurring or repeat attendance at specific events must demonstrate the additional significant outcomes and strategic benefits to the applicant.

Applications directed to the Indigenous Arts Program should also address the assessment criteria of that Program.

Eligibility

In addition to the general eligibility requirements of the Arts Grant Program, applicants should be aware that:

  • Attendance must be in response to a written invitation to attend or present, rather than confirmation of attendance
  • Invitations to accept or participate in an award or prize are ineligible, unless significant strategic benefits to the applicant’s practice can be demonstrated
  • Other sources of income must be demonstrated. Artflight offers a contribution toward the costs of travel and freight only
  • Applicants are eligible to receive one Artflight (and/or Quick Response Grant) in any 12-month period, effective from the departure date of the Artflight activity. This includes beneficiaries of joint applications
  • Artists and arts workers employed by Triennially and Multi-year funded organisations may submit applications as individuals, provided they demonstrate that it benefits their own practice and that the activity is not undertaken on behalf of their employers
  • Groups should submit a joint application and not individual applications for each artist
  • Any activities already funded by other categories of DCA’s grants programs are not eligible
  • Applications to participate in residency programs must demonstrate exceptional strategic opportunity or skills development not available in Western Australia.

Support Material

Please see general support material the Arts Grant Program. Applications without required support material will not be considered. In addition, applications must include:

  • Travel and freight quotes
  • A letter or email of invitation. If this is not available at the time of application, lodge your application on time and mark it ‘pending confirmation’. If successful, your funding will be made available upon confirmation of your invitation.
