ASSESSMENT REPORT – July 2008

The Young People and the Arts Panel met on 22 August 2008 to assess the second round of grants for 2008.
Applications to the Development, Distribution and Annual Program funding categories were considered.

Total Applications Received: 18

Total Applications Approved: 10

Success Rate: 55.5%

Total Requested: $179,874

Total Approved: $79,387

Allocation Rate: 44%

GENERAL COMMENTS

This was a strong, competitive round of applications.

The importance of speaking to the Young People and the Arts Project Officer when preparing your application was highlighted, preferably in its entirety (ie including the budget, not just the written questions).  Support material can also be discussed with the Project Officer.

Please note that the 2009 Arts Grants Handbook and application form are currently under revision to assist applicants to better frame their activities against selection criteria.

PANEL COMMENTS

The Panel emphasized that it is important for applications involving professional artists working with and for young people to reflect the ‘voice’ of young participants.  If the young people themselves are not writing the application, their commitment to the project can be demonstrated through things such as detailing consultation undertaken, letters of support from young participants and quotes (if the project is building on an existing project or program).

SUPPORT MATERIAL

Applicants need to ensure that the submitted support material is concise and relevant to the project.  It is also important to ensure that CV’s / bios for all listed participants are included and that these do not go over one page.
Please note that the new 2009 Arts Grants Handbook will have revised support material requirements. 

APPLICATION FORMS

Applicants are asked to note that the Arts Grants Handbook and Arts Grants Program Application Form are currently being revised for 2009.  Please do not work from old forms, or re-format the current one.   Contact the Project Officer to request a new version for the February 2009 round.

ELIGIBILITY

A number of applications were unclear as to start dates, and ineligible budget items. Please read the handbook carefully for guidance on which items are ineligible for DCA support.
