Young People and the Arts Panel - February 2009

The Young People and the Arts Panel met on 30 April 2009 to assess the first round of grant applications for 2009.

Applications to the Development, Distribution funding categories were considered, as well as awarding the $30,000 Young People and the Arts International Scholarship.

Young People and the Arts International Scholarship Recipient

One (1) International Scholarship of $30,000 is awarded by the Department of Culture and the Arts each year.  In 2009 4 applications were received.

Mr Joshua Lloyd Webb   $30,000

Completion of second year studies (Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture) at the Rhode Island School of Design, USA.

Development and Distribution Applications

10 of the 38 applications were supported, to a total of $129,286 (total requested, $535,893)

Tour 'The Adventure's of Alvin Sputnik: Deep Sea Explorer,' to the New York International Fringe Festival, USA in August 2009.

Interdisciplinary Community Cultural Development Project about reducing, reusing and recycling.

A collaborative theatre project entitled ‘Metal + Muscle’ exploring issues of identity, belonging and control, for Pilbara youth.

Production of a large scale installation for the ‘Revelations’ exhibition at the Fremantle Arts Centre in November 2009.

Holly Pepper  $7,438
Develop a range of sustainably designed floor mats handmade from recycled materials to exhibit in a solo exhibition.

Kathryn Osborne  $16,000
Creative development towards the production of a new contemporary theatre piece entitled ‘Acts Of Undressing’.

St. Mary's College Parents and Friends Inc. (Broome)  $21,430
Performing Arts Cultural Tour Group 2009; thirty-six students will collaborate on dance, music and art works to promote reconciliation, resilience and recognition of culture.

Kensington Secondary School  $15,000
A dance performance with high school students with special needs; it is a seed project with a view to expand into the wider community.

Tom Freeman  $5,066
Compile documentation and research material from significant family sites in Peterborough and Kettering, United Kingdom.
