Making Work

Seven applications were supported to a total of $95,127

Ms Samantha Connor    $29,500
Creating and exhibiting a new body of work 'Accidental Secrets', which explores the themes of arts access, function and disability. Exhibition to take place 5 - 28 March 2010 at the Moores Building, Fremantle.

The Three Daves, auspice agreement with Nulsen Haven Association (Inc.)    $27,132
Three visual art representatives from the arts and disability community work together to create works that reflect a fusion of techniques, life experiences, talent and creativity. The exhibition is to take place in November 2009 at the Perth Town Hall.

Mr Timothy Maley, auspice agreement with Mundaring Art Centre Inc.    $16,000
Tim will develop painting skills with arts mentor, Si Hummerston and explore various subject matter to develop a body of work for an exhibition in 2010.

Ms Nicky Vervest    $10,820
'Woven Form' is a one year creative development working with established Western Australian Artist, Coral Lowry. Nicky will explore weaving and sculptural techniques. Exhibition to take place 8 – 19 March 2010 at the Freight Gallery, Fremantle.

Miss Karli Linaker    $5,546
Karli will work with a mentor to design and create wearable artwork along with two related acrylic paintings on canvas. Pieces to be exhibited as part of Kimberley Art Prize, Alice Desert Festival, Alice Springs and Be Active Worn Art Show, Broome. 

Miss Thea Terpstra    $4,931
Thea will create a body of original artworks including paintings and mixed media images. Exhibition to take place in November 2009 at the Freight Gallery, Fremantle.

Miss Adeline Skeen auspice agreement with Lower Great Southern Community Living Association Inc    $1,198
Adeline will work with a voice coach to develop her singing skills ready for performance and recording.

Learning

Two applications were funded to a total of $8,526

Ms Peta Crozier auspice agreement with Advocacy South West Inc    $5,202
Peta will undertake learning in makaton performance in Albany and disability theatre with Back to Back Theatre, Victoria. She will work with mentor, Margot Edwards to assist her in directing a group-devised performance.

Miss Julia Claire Hales auspice agreement with Disability in the Arts, Disadvantage in the Arts Australia    $2,205
Julia will work in a secondment position with Back to Back Theatre, Victoria. This will involve working with the company during the development of their new work Ganesh Versus the Third Reich.

Access Indigenous Arts Pilot Project

The Access Indigenous Arts project forms part of the Disability and the Arts Inclusion Initiative (DAII), a partnership between the Department of Culture and the Arts  and the Disability Services Commission (DSC) which aims to provide greater opportunities for people with disabilities, their family and carers to participate in everyday arts and cultural activities.

$85,000 was made available through the DAII partnership to support successful grants applications to the Access Indigenous Arts Project.  The aim is to provide opportunities for Indigenous artists with disabilities to develop their professional arts practice.

In March 2009, the Indigenous Arts Panel Assessed three applications for the Access Indigenous Arts Pilot Project. The following projects were funded, Waringarri Aboriginal Arts, DADAA WA auspiced for Mr Aquinas Crowe and Lisa Uhl, and Mungart Boodja Inc.  Read more.
