WA’s emerging filmmakers get their shorts on at the Revelation Film Festival

21 Jul 2011

Western Australia’s emerging filmmaking talent will be given the opportunity to take centre stage tonight at Get Your Shorts On! as part of the Revelation Perth International Film Festival.

Get Your Shorts On! includes a selection of short films produced by local filmmakers with the support of ScreenWest and the Film & Television Institute (FTI).

This year’s program of seven films comprise fantasy genre, satirical comedy, confronting drama, sumptuous musical melodrama and powerful documentaries.

Culture and the Arts Minister John Day said the program reflected the quality, diversity and ambition evident in films being made in WA.

“The initiatives that ScreenWest and FTI provides, gives our emerging filmmakers opportunities to demonstrate their talents and to ensure the tradition of Western Australian storytelling continues,” Mr Day said.

“The State’s screen industry has experienced a mini-boom in recent years and it is very promising to see a strong crop of emerging creative talent supporting this growth.

“Short film is an important stepping stone for filmmakers as their careers develop and they move into long form filmmaking and further work within the industry.

“I encourage all lovers of film and supporters of the WA film industry to get your skates on to come and see Get Your Shorts On!”
