Perth will get a bite of The Big Apple from June with an exclusive series of exhibitions from New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).
Culture and the Arts Minister John Day today officially announced details of the Picasso to Warhol: Fourteen Modern Masters exhibition which is the result of collaboration between the Art Gallery of WA (AGWA) and MoMA.
“As the only venue in the Southern Hemisphere to host an exclusive series of six exhibitions across three years, this is a major opportunity for West Australians and offers a unique cultural experience,” Mr Day said.
“The partnership between AGWA and MoMA will see Perth’s Cultural Centre transformed into a hub of bustling activity, inspired by the cultural vibrancy of New York.
“In addition to the art display, the exhibition series will offer a complete New York experience for all ages with entertainment, music, food, shopping and the exclusive Manhattan-inspired Bar.
“As part of the series, AGWA is offering West Australians a unique opportunity to get up close and personal to some iconic works of art through an exciting volunteer program.”
Tourism Minister Kim Hames said Eventscorp’s support for the Great Collections of the World series helped to provide West Australians with a once in a lifetime opportunity to see this incredible art firsthand.
“Eventscorp aims to attract and encourage unique events which strike a balance between culture and sport and provide West Australians with a range of different experiences,” Dr Hames said.
“The exhibition series has proved popular and I am sure this special taste of New York will draw thousands of West Australians and visitors alike.”
