The State Government, through the Department of Culture and the Arts’ Designer Fashion Grants Program, has provided $104,867 to assist six Western Australian designers with a range of promotional and market based projects.
Culture and the Arts Minister John Day said the grants would enable recipients to attend major fashion events in Australia and overseas; research overseas market potential; or speed on promotional campaigns.
“The Designer Fashion Grants Program focuses on assisting fashion designers and businesses to access commercial markets for their products and to develop skills and infrastructure,” Mr Day said.
“This, in turn, results in the development of new markets for the State’s designer fashion industry.
“All applications are peer assessed by practising industry professionals with relevant knowledge and experience.”
The Minister said that projects receiving grant funding included assistance for a campaign by WA womenswear designer, Megan Salmon to promote her label nationally.
“In addition, emerging menswear designer, Shane Newton will take part in a designer showroom during Paris Fashion Week to increase the number of outlets stocking his label ZSADAR, and to promote brand awareness,” he said.
“Milliner Tania Tehan of Passchendales will travel to Europe to research the market potential of the Paris Premier Classe Trade Show and participate in workshops in Paris and London.”
