Funding supports local music sector

08 Jan 2013

Culture and the Arts Minister John Day today announced funding grants to assist the local contemporary music industry.

Mr Day said 12 applicants would share $130,000 of State Government grants, through the Department of Culture and the Arts, for a variety of projects.

“The local music industry is being assisted with these grants for activities such as producing singles and albums; and touring,” he said.

“Country musician Jon Taylor has received funding to promote, distribute and market two singles and launch a full-length album in 2013, while Jonathan Carroll will produce and release an album.”

The Minister said the department’s Contemporary Music Grant Program had assisted many local musicians and bands that had gone on to achieve success such as Tame Impala, San Cisco and Decibel.

All applications to the Contemporary Music Grant Program were peer-assessed by members of the sector, including practising artists, arts managers and individuals with relevant knowledge and experience.
