Fast funding for WA artists

01 Mar 2016
Apply anytime for grants under $15,000
Broader range of programs
More flexible and responsive grants program
WA artists can now apply anytime for funding up to $15,000 and get a decision in a matter of weeks.
Department of Culture and the Arts’ (DCA) Director General Duncan Ord said the new grants funding program would better meet the needs of artists, groups and organisations.
“With a much shorter turnaround time between submission and notification, artists will be able to take advantage of creative and professional opportunities in a timely way without the need to plan their projects around funding rounds.
“For the first time, funding will also be available in the new Community Engagement program for projects and activities that encourage West Australians to become more involved in the arts,” Mr Ord said.
“More than $3million a year is provided through DCA’s grants program to support WA’s arts and cultural sector.”
Artists can apply online for funding to any of five programs – Creative Development, Commercial Development, Community Engagement, Aboriginal Arts, and Scholarship and Fellowships.  There will be one funding round (for requests over $15,000) per year for each program.
The changes follow a number of recent reforms implemented by DCA to make its funding programs more effective and efficient, including the development of an Online Grants System and the introduction of the new Organisation Investment Program.
