His Majesty's Theatre at 825 Hay Street, Perth, is a heritage listed theatre with wheelchair seating available on the ground level (stalls). Parking is either in nearby city car parks or one bay directly adjacent to the front of the theatre. Toilets on this level offer good accessible facilities.

The nearest train station is Perth. The path from the train station to this venue is wheelchair accessible but a long walk.

Parking

There is an extended length accessible parking bay in Hay Street, fronting the property directly adjacent to the Theatre, identified with the International Symbol of Access.
There are 4 accessible bays allocated at City of Perth His Majesty's (number 5) car park on Murray Street. There are two bays located at the Hay Street exit and two at the Murray Street entrance. The former are closest to the venue.
People using these bays must display a current ACROD parking permit.

 

Approach to the Building

The path from the accessible parking bay, to the front door is wide and even, and approximately 20 metres long. The pathway is lit for night use.
The path from the bus stop to the front door is wide and even and approximately 60 metres long. The pathway is lit for night use.
The path from the set-down area to the front door is wide and even, and approximately 10 metres long. The pathway is lit for night use.
Signage to the building is clear.
Signage inside the building is difficult to read at night.

 

Main Entrance

There are no steps at the main entrance.
The box office is not wheelchair accessible directly from the street, but access is available via the main foyer.
The main entrance doors are secured open prior to all performances.

 

Foyer, Corridors and General Areas

There is sufficient circulation space to move through all essential areas of this facility. Steps to the upper dress circle and upper circle are marble and could be slippery so it is advisable to use the lift if you have a mobility impairment.

 

Lifts

There is a lift available in the foyer which is big enough for a wheelchair. The lift is close to the front entrance of the Theatre.
The lift has large buttons which are not lit up. The internal and external control panels may be beyond the reach of wheelchair patrons. However, please note that Main Auditorium seating for wheelchair users is on the ground floor only. The lift does not have an audible announcement / bell.
Emergency equipment is within easy reach for all but is in poor visual contrast to the background.
The lift accesses all publicly accessible floors. The lift is easy to find.

 

Theatre Areas (seating diagram)

Access from the foyer to the main theatre is via the main public thoroughfare or by prior arrangement off the King Street exit to the front of the theatre at the ends of rows. Selected end seats have moveable armrests fo easy transfer.
There is sufficient circulation space to move through the theatre area.
There is room for wheelchair seating at the rear of the stalls (approximately 6 seats available) and at the front of the stalls (access is off King Street by prior arrangement).
Seats in the theatre are medium backed, have a high seat and have arms.
There is sufficient light to see the corridors when the house lights are off.
Rows and seating numbers are difficult to read, but by mid-2002 new lettering is to be installed to remedy this.
Emergency Exits are accessible.

 

Pricing

Pricing ranges for wheelchair seating is according to costs for the rear Stalls.
Audio loop seating is available in the Stalls from F row backwards, in the Dress Circle from B row backwards and in the Upper Circle from B row backwards.
Price for an attendant is normal price.

 

Toilets

There is a female and male wheelchair accessible toilet facility on the ground level in the main toilet block.
The toilet complies with Australian Standards, except, that the door to the main toilet block is heavy with a high D handle.
