ScreenWest
ScreenWest is Western Australia's screen funding and development agency, committed to working in partnership with the screen industry to develop, support and promote film, television and digital media production and practitioners in Western Australia.
Western Australia’s reputation in producing groundbreaking drama and excellent television, especially in children’s and documentary programming, is continually recognised with national and international awards.
2007 was a fantastic year for the Western Australian screen industry with a record 11 nominations and two outstanding wins in the 2007 Australian Film Institute (AFI) Awards, all for ScreenWest supported projects.
ScreenWest undertakes a range of initiatives, including facilitating Professional Attachments on productions, for filmmakers to hone their skills and gain experience and professional credits, and works to promote Western Australia as the ideal destination for film and television production as part of its strategy to firmly establish a sustainable industry in Western Australia.

Previously the Western Australian Film Council (established on 24 January 1987) supported the WA screen industry and the agency assumed the new trading name of ScreenWest from January 1994 and a new Constitution and official change of name to ScreenWest Inc was registered with the Ministry of Fair Trading on 13 July 1995.
The affairs of ScreenWest are managed by a Board of Management, which consists of no less than six and no more than nine members who are appointed by the Minister for Culture and the Arts.
ScreenWest’s Mission
ScreenWest funds the development and production of quality innovative screen productions in Western Australia primarily, but not exclusively, in the areas of
- Drama production
- Indigenous production
- Factual production, especially documentaries
- Innovative digital production
It is assumed that animation is included in each of these areas.
ScreenWest works with other industry partners to advance the business/ leadership acumen and craft skills of Western Australian screen industry members so they can remain valuable and competitive to a global standard of excellence.
ScreenWest Strategic Plan 2006-2011
ScreenWest developed a Strategic Plan in close consultation with the Australian Screen Industry, which was released in 2006 for the next five years. This Plan identifies ScreenWest’s strategic priorities and objectives to be achieved over the next five years.
2008 Australian International Documentary Conference
The 2008 Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC) will be held in Fremantle from 20 to 22 February 2008. This is Australia’s premier conference for documentary filmmakers and will draw both national and international participants, and some of the world’s leading factual filmmakers and television executives. With around 500 participants expected to attend, this event ill not only increase business opportunities for local production companies, but will also attract significant dollars to the State.
