What will I find in the State Library?
There
are books, magazines (serials), music – sheet recordings and lyrics,
personal archival documents, microfiche and microfilm, DVDs, videos and
film, Government publications, book reviews and newspapers. We also
have many electronic resources – some that you can see from home using
your public library membership and some that you have to come to the
library to access. There’s even a book shop and a coffee shop!
Our
other special subject areas include music, family history and business
resources. We have a special research collection of children’s
literature that can be viewed by appointment and a growing collection
of Indigenous resources. We provide specialist information services for
these areas. If you would like special assistance with your research
call us on 9427 3111, and ask to make an appointment with the Subject
Specialists’ Team.
If you are researching into anything relating
to Western Australia, the State Library will be one of your key
resources and our staff are always happy to assist you. We provide
services based on information about Western Australia to clients all
over the world. The State Library also has specific responsibilities
for the preservation of, and access to, these collections as part of
the nation’s and Western Australia’s heritage.
Have you considered donating your treasures to the State Library of Western Australia?
Some
of our resources have come as gifts and donations and some by purchase.
If you are considering donating your treasures to us, the State Library
is eligible to participate in the Cultural Gifts Program, which offers
donors a tax deduction for the market value of the gift. If you would
like to make a donation of material or a bequest, please vist the State Library of WA's website.
