Organisation
The Department was formally established under the Public Service Act.

- Art Gallery of Western Australia (statutory authority)
- Perth Theatre Trust (statutory authority)
- ScreenWest (incorporated association)
- State Library of Western Australia (statutory authority)
- The Bell Tower (incorporated association)
- Western Australia Museum (statutory authority)
The State Records Office (SRO) is also part of the Department. They are responsible for the administration of the State Records Act 2000 which regulates whole of government recordkeeping and the management of State archives.
The Department oversees the activities of the Portfolio in alignment with Government policy. It acts as the main contact point to and from the Minister and for the central government agencies, including the Auditor General, Department of the Premier and Cabinet and Department of Treasury and Finance.
